Travel Local - Snowy Mountains
Snowy Mountains Odyssey
I jumped at the chance to holiday in the Snowy Mountains with Kath and her dog Maisy, it did not disappoint.
We set off on a bright Melbourne autumn day, with our 1st stop at Euroa for morning tea, then Wodonga for lunch at their lovely pop-up café on reclaimed railway land in the centre of town. Lovely spot on the grass for the weary travellers. Our destination was Towong, just ten minutes further on from Corryong. We were greeted by a burst of autumn colour from the roadside trees – red, claret, yellow and orange.
Our affable host Ron, had been in the area for 40 years and had lots of local knowledge to share. The property had a viewing platform overlooking the Murray River and the pink and purple mountains, including Kosciuszko. The full moon rose over the mountains on our 1st evening – pictured above.
Our explorations took us to Khancoban, Paddy’s River Falls and some man-made lakes as part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Project. Although our desire for a local country pub lunch was thwarted for a variety of reasons, the country bakeries came to the rescue with their wonderful pies!
