What’s Going On At The Park? Brighton Bayside Life Activities Club (BBLAC) often uses Basterfield Park in Hampton East as a venue for activities. There’s plenty of parking, a large covered area, toilets, power and barbeques – everything a Life Activities Club could want.

To celebrate the easing of lockdown restrictions just before Christmas last year, and to give members the chance to catch up face-to-face in a COVID safe manner, the Club hosted a get together at the park. Complete with bubbly and delicious cakes, it was a great success. We have been able to resume our Picnics in the Park on significant dates such as Australia Day and ANZAC Day, which have been well attended.

We were fortunate to receive a Reactivation Grant earlier this year from Bayside Council to purchase some games and folding tables.

Now, on the first Saturday afternoon of each month, members play bocce, quoits, molkky (Finnish skittles) and rummy tiles in the park while enjoying a chat and afternoon tea. So far we’ve been blessed with perfect weather.

So, if you’ve got a similar park in your area, perhaps you could try something similar.
