In February convenor Mim Forrest and myself commenced Wednesday walking groups. Mim’s was a regular fortnightly event walking around the picturesque Cruickshank Park in local Yarraville, where a healthy Stony Creek flows through the park and completes its journey under Westgate Bridge into the Yarra River.
On the alternating Wednesdays, I had organised other walks in different locations, but COVID–19 had other plans for us all.
Fortunately, Cruickshank Park was within the 5km zone for most of the walkers, so this became the weekly walk. Since April we have been walking twice weekly as a ‘friendship group’ to keep in touch for our physical and mental wellbeing. Sometimes 10, other times 3 or 4 of us, but we keep walking and look forward to the activity, and yes there is lots of chatter along the path, pictured above.
Lately, with the onset of good weather, we have been hearing the happy sound of frogs croaking in the creek and many a variety of birds chirping in the trees above.
So close to the CBD and we feel so far away and peaceful as though we are in the country. Another YLAC member Deb Green, was recently walking her dogs in a park close by and looked up into a tree and saw this family of tawny frogmouths staring back at her.
