Our Club only enjoyed our new facility in the long vacant Masonic Hall in Abbot Street for six months before the lockdown due to COVID–19.

Membership secretary, Jirka Rada, has been keeping in touch with members by regular emails with informative and amusing ‘Lockdown Updates’. The Bush Walkers group briefly restarted in July, but then needed to stop. Our exercise and yoga groups have had their sessions online via Zoom, but only possible for members on the internet. This has exposed the need to offer information and training to the rest of our members, and our committee will address this challenge in 2021.

As part of Bayside Seniors Festival, the BCC invited president, Barry Scott, to join a panel of Bayside residents to participate in a Zoom presentation by Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior Victorians. Gerard reflected on how he has adapted his personal and professional journey through the pandemic and the attributes of ageing well in a changing world. The guests then chatted about how they have responded to COVID–19 restrictions and what they had done to keep active, busy and connected.
