Maggie the Dog

Maggie the Dog

At the beginning of lockdown the vet advised us that Maggie, our beautiful and much loved 8 yr old Border Collie, had advanced cancer and had weeks, not months to live!

To say we were devastated was an understatement.  We sought a second opinion and the diagnosis was the same, with palliative care the only option. Every morning we worried that she had passed away overnight but there she would be, wagging her tail waiting for her walk.

Each day we drove to the beach for a walk and a take away coffee as it was too far for Maggie to walk. We always ran into people doing the same, who would stop and chat and admire Maggie. We all had so much time on our hands and we would tell them about her health.

Weeks turned to months & she put on weight like the rest of us. Lol. For Maggie though, this was good.  She even started chasing her ball again. It is now December and amazingly, Maggie is still with us.  The vet can’t believe it.  She says Maggie is the healthiest sick dog she has ever seen.  We are so grateful to still have her especially as she got us out of the house every day during lockdown.

Maggie has turned nine now and is still happy, but tired. We know she is on borrowed time but for the moment it seems she is not ready to say goodbye.
