Life Online

I have a daughter and her family, including two grandsons aged 7 and 9 living in Brisbane and we have been using Facetime for quite a while. When we connect they can show me around their new home and go outside to show me all the discoveries, they have made. It compensates a little for those hugs and kisses that I miss so much.

With the isolation necessary due to COVID-19, our LAC Committee have used Zoom. Some members were already using Zoom with their families but others had to download the App on their home computer. The online Zoom support provides very clear YouTube videos showing how to navigate the system.

Our April Zoom Committee meeting with 11 participants and our May meeting with an update on our LAMP progress both went very well. It was so good to see everyone’s faces and was the next best thing to meeting in person.

Our LAC “Tasting Group” has recently used Zoom for a get-together, but we were so keen to catch up with each other that the appraisal of the wine somehow got lost. I even put a little bit of effort into my appearance for a Zoom meeting - fluff up my hair and put on some lipstick.

Zooming and FaceTiming are now a regular part of my life and it is new technology that I would encourage everyone to use. It is a great way to connect with people who you are unable to meet with in-person and that certainly adds to your happiness and well-being.
