Club News Round-up: Waverley LAC

Prior to the lockdown Waverley LAC members enjoyed our program of activities and trips during the summer weather, including a day train trip to Ararat for a tour of the asylum, lunch and return by train. Members also enjoyed an annual week away at our “Summer by the Sea” at Torquay in January.

Our cycling group enjoyed riding the many bike tracks in the regional city of Bendigo, until, unfortunately the trip was cut short due the implementation of the lockdown restrictions.

A cultural highlight of the trip for riders and non riders was a tour of the Fortuna Villa, a privately owned mansion which has been renovated by Lisa and Paul Banks. Fortuna’s interesting history commenced during the gold rush days and included ownership and substantial development by George Lansell, a name well known in Melbourne.

Our committee has made good use of the Zoom platform to conduct our business and Committee Meetings, thanks to LACVI for rolling out Zoom to the clubs.

I am very proud of our volunteers in the Monash Kids Support Craft Group, a Waverley LAC Activities Group who knit, crochet and sew articles for sale. The members then run 6 stalls a year to sell the goods for fund raising. A total of +$6,000 has been raised by the group for the Monash Health Foundation. Well done!
