Club News Round-up: Sandringham LAC
In early March, narrowly beating the Coronavirus lockdown, fifteen Wednesday Walkers departed Melbourne on their annual Getaway to beautiful Warburton for three days of fun and walking in the surrounding forests.
Monday, day one, we loosened up with a short 6.3km walk along Warburton’s Yarra track where we enjoyed lunch overlooking the river before checking in to our very comfortable accommodation at Oscars on the Yarra. Nibbles and drinks were consumed on Oscars’ stunning deck overlooking the river before a noisy dinner and well earned glasses of wine.
On Tuesday the ten active walkers, ably led by Brian, tested their fitness and their dismissive attitude to leeches with an 11.7km walk deep in the forest along the old Richards Tramline in the Upper Yarra Ranges.
At the same time, the five long serving superannuated members spent a very pleasant few hours having lunch by the burbling waters of the Yarra as it flows through the town. Everyone really enjoyed the after-party and dinner back at Oscars.
Our final walk on Wednesday morning was through the stately trees of the old Redwood Plantation in East Warburton, before lunching in the township and heading for home.
The annual getaway is eagerly awaited by our members and sincere thanks go to Brian and Lorraine for their efforts in organising the walks and accommodation.
