Club News Round-up: LAC Knox

Sages Cottage in Baxter is a place for Wallara service users to gain work experience assisting with the maintenance of the gardens and looking after the animals that now enjoy their retirement.

Life Activities Club Knox Inc. had the pleasure of visiting Sages Cottage for one of our Garden Group outings on Wednesday March 11th this year.

The 34-acre site has heritage protected buildings, a picturesque lake, conservation bushland area, manicured gardens, a beautiful old barn and the original cottage which dates back to the 1850s.

It was quite a warm day, so we needed our sunnies and hats. We took our own lunch to enjoy in the surroundings although there is coffee and some food available in the café. It is run by the students from nearby special schools, who are helped by staff members.

We enjoyed a tour of the animals with added commentary by some of the students present on the day regarding the animal care.

The students really enjoyed showing us around and told us how much they loved being part of the program there.

Local schools now come through the property to learn about their local history, the conservation of our land and the care of animals. Art groups and other community groups have made the property their base.
