LAC Knox Activities and Health

 LAC Knox provides activities to keep you active and healthy.  The 5 main aspects of health are: HEART, EXERCISE, BRAIN, DIET & SOCIAL ACTIVITY.  Our activities cover 3 of these.  See the Activity Group Categories list below.

For a healthy heart:

Do not smoke
Manage your blood cholesterol
Manage your blood pressure
Manage diabetes
Maintain a healthy weight

Coronary heart disease is the number one cause of death in Australia.  Over 20 people die of it every day.

Mentally challenge your brain to keep it active and healthy and delay the onset of dementia

Dementia, also known as senility, is a broad category of brain diseases that cause a long term and often gradual decrease in the ability to think and remember, that is great enough to affect a person’s daily functioning.  Other common symptoms include emotional problems, problems with language and a decrease in motivation.

Dementia is not a normal part of ageing
Dementia is the single greatest cause of disability in Australians over 65
About 10% of people over 65 have dementia
In about 70% of people with dementia, the cause is
Alzheimer’s Disease
Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia

Most of us are social beings and usually prefer the company of others rather than existing in isolation. It’s always much more fun doing things with other people, to share experiences like going to the movies or a concert, going for a walk, take off on a trip somewhere or discover a new restaurant.

All our activities provide social activity.  It is why our Club exists!
