All members are invited to Armchair Travel meetings, which are held monthly in the Hampton Senior Citizens Hall, 14 Service Street, Hampton. Meetings start at 7:30pm and are usually held on the last Wednesday of the month, although the date may be changed at times to avoid public holidays.
A club member gives a presentation of 45-60 minutes about a trip they have undertaken either within Australia or overseas. Images are projected on a screen and questions may be asked of the speaker during or after the speech.
Topics are very diverse – presentations about Australia have included South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, the Kimberleys, the Simpson Desert, North Queensland’s lava tubes at Undara, Margaret River in W.A. and walks in Tasmania. One member and his wife showed interesting photos taken during the six continuous years they spent travelling around Australia in their motorhome.
Most presentations involve overseas and topics have included:
- Sea and river cruises,
- Japan, Norway, Africa, Spain, Portugal, Myanmar, United Arab Emirates, India, Greenland, Iceland and Greece,
- Walks in Nepal and the Dolomites in Italy
- Rail trips in Russia and road trips in Canada,
- Angkor Wat in Cambodia,
- Iguazu Falls in Argentina/Brazil,
- Stonehenge in the U.K.,
- Game lodges and the annual Wildebeest migration in Africa.
At the conclusion of every presentation, members are invited to enjoy a light supper of sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee and orange juice at a cost of $2.
The meeting usually concludes around 9 PM.
