About this activity
We visit Theatre performances on about six Fridays per year. These nights are usually in Heidelberg or Malvern
“PYGMALION” by George Bernard Shaw. This classic romantic comedy of a feisty flower seller groomed for presentation to London Society by the haughty egotistical phonetics professor Henry Higgins who makes a bet that in three months he can train a bedraggled Cockney flower-girl, Eliza Doolittle, to pass for a duchess at the Ambassador’s Garden Party. Aided and abetted by his friend Colonel Pickering and supported by his housekeeper Mrs. Pearce, he revels in his ‘experiment’ with Eliza whose English he describes as sounding like a ‘crooning bilious pigeon’. He hasn’t bargained on her independent spirit, Freddie Eynsford-Hill and her garbage-collecting Dad. This is the original play on which My Fair Lady was based.
